Subs boost for Virgin Media

Virgin Media has reported its best quarter in terms of subscriber numbers since the company was formed from the merger of NTL and Telewest. The cablenet reported a significant improvement in both customer and RGU growth with the addition of 272,100 so-called Revenue Generating Units in the 4th quarter.

Sony PlayTV to hit European stores on March 28

Sony has said the new PlayTV, which turns any PlayStation 3 into a fully fledged DTT tuner and PVR, will hit the stores on March 28 in France, Italy, Germany, Spain and the UK. The recommended retail price is set at €130. 

German cable associations to merge

The German cable association Deutsche Kabelverband is set to merge with ANGA later this year, the two organisations said. The country’s three largest operators – Kabel Deutschland (KDG), Unitymedia and Kabel BW – are currently represented in the Kabelverband. 

More German states license Mobile 3.0

The city of Bremen has issued a licence to Mobile 3.0 to launch its DVB-H service before the start of the Euro 2008 Football championships. Also, the states of Saxony, Thüringen and Hesse have now granted these 

ViewAfrica to increase its channel offering

Intelsat has announced that UK-based ViewAfrica has contracted for additional capacity on the Intelsat 10 satellite for increased channel distribution. ViewAfrica Network is distributing free-to-air programming bouquets to all the Sub-Saharan countries.

Multimedia profit slumps

The Polish MSO Multimedia Polska is reported to have posted a consolidated net profit of PLN17.94 million (€5.08 million) for Q4 2007, as opposed to one of PLN52.98 million in the corresponding period a year earlier.
