ZON Multimedia reported an increase of 26,000 pay-TV subscribers in Q4 2007, but net profits declined by 31.2% to €48.9 million in 2007as a result of costs related to last year’s spin-off from Portugal Telecom.
The rebranded ZON TV Cabo closed the year with 1.547 million pay subscribers to its cable and DTH packages. The cablenet has successfully developed a triple play strategy following the launch of voice telephony services. As a result Blended ARPU increased by 5.6% to €30.8 in 2007. Talks are underway with Vodafone Portugal with a view to launching a MVNO branded mobile phone service.
The new extended basic Funtastic Life package was selected by 382,000 subscribers, an increase of 112,000 subscribers, and premium subscriptions rose by 38,000 on the quarter to 841,000. It follows the launch of the TV Globo and PFC Brazilian channels that garnered just short of 20,000 subscribers in their first three months of availability. Sport TV closed the year with 514,000 subscribers, despite an autumn price hike.
