FirstScience.tv, the independent download video portal dedicated to science TV, is launching a burn to DVD option with a claim that this will make the viewing of online TV far more consumer friendly. Initially around 20 titles will be available for download to burn to DVD, including ‘Birth of the Universe’, ‘Stormchasers’ and ‘Was Darwin Wrong?’, with more titles to be added in the future. FirstScience.tv is using fluxDVD technology, an Internet DVD distribution, rights management and copy protection solution, developed by Germany’s Ace GmbH.
The DVD burning technology is a pragmatic, easy to use solution for consumers as they wait for the industry to develop a simple way to move video from the Web to the TV, the company claims. The Burn to DVD product, which can also be played on the PC, costs $5 more than the standard download-to-own product. A typical documentary bought this way costs $8.99.
