A number of foreign thematic channels will soon become available for the first time in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. According to a report in the Czech press, they will include The History Channel UK, a joint venture between BSkyB and A&E Television Networks, which should be available from later this year, and a raft of services from the BBC Global Channels, from 2009. Most are already available in neighbouring Poland.

The report states that this translates to 20% of global TV sets by 2016, up from only 6% at end-2010.
