Apart from the news that the iTunes store now offers video rentals from most Hollywood studios, the company also announced a completely newe service in cooperation with Fox: a free digital copy with every (physical) DVD bought. When you buy a DVD, you insert it into your computer, enter a unique code into iTunes and iTunes automatically copies the movie to the library. Customers own the iTunes Digital Copy of the movie, which can be viewed on a computer, iPod with video, iPhone and Apple TV. Each DVD will only transfer its iTunes digital copy to one iTunes library. The first DVD to make its debut is the Special Edition DVD premiere of the Family Guy parody of Star Wars, called ‘Family Guy Presents: Blue Harvest’. Fox and Apple are planning to deliver more DVDs with iTunes Digital Copy this year.
