BBC Future Media and Technology has announced the appointment of Dirk-Willem van Gulik as the division’s Chief Technical Architect. He joins from the broadband video service Joost where he was chief technology officer, building the company’s platforms and technologies.
Van Gulik will take up his post in February and will be responsible for the design and construction of the BBC’s next generation back-end infrastructure to support all interactive services including, bbc.co.uk, BBCi and BBC Mobile. He is a recognised contributor to the Open Source foundation and has been a board member of the Apache Software Foundation since its inception.
