German telco Arcor is to use a version of the NDS conditional access technology VideoGuard for its new IPTV service. Arcor, a subsidiary of the UK’s Vodafone, is deploying VideoGuard Server for the rollout in 51 cities across the country.
The signature marks the third large-scale agreement and second deployment of VideoGuard in Germany. Earlier this month, the German cable operator KabelBW began distribution of VideoGuard smart cards to its customers in the city of Stuttgart.
VideoGuard server has been developed for two-way networks and incorporates both the VideoGuard CA and DRM technology. It provides headend security for linear and on-demand services as well as authentication and content protection in the decoder chip in the set top-box.
