The Belgian commercial broadcaster VMMa (Vlaamse Media Maatschappij) is to completely revamp its second channel (Kanaaltwee) in order to boost performance. Following disappointing ratings, the broadcaster plans a complete overhaul of programming, identity and a new name for the channel: from this spring Kanaaltwee will be known as 2BE (pronounced as: to be). Of course BE also stands for Belgium.
Interestingly, the Belgian French language premium broadcaster is called Be.tv and we would not be surprised if they were to file a complaint over the use of the new name. Overall, in naming channels there seems to be a lack of originality: Flemish operator Telenet calls its premium channels Prime. On the same cable network viewers can also see BBC Prime.
