Russia is reported to have suspended the award of TV broadcasting licences until a new frequency distribution plan is fully in place. The plan is likely to secure final approval in H1 2008, with the award of digital licences set to follow in the second half of next year. A plan for the transition to digital broadcasting was approved last month by Russia’s deputy PM – and most probably its next president – Dimitry Medvedev. ASO is expected in 2015, with the cost of the transition to be R357.8 billion (€10.05 billion).
