Magyar Telekom has announced that it plans to launch what will be Hungary’s first HDTV service in 2008. The incumbent telco began a pilot HD project in the 11th district of Budapest in summer this year, employing VDSL2+ technology that allows for minimum download speeds of 25Mbps and upload rates of 1.5Mbps. HDTV, offering coverage of such events as the forthcoming Beijing Olympics, will be rolled out to subscribers of the T-Home TV IPTV service, which made its debut in Q4 2006, in parts of Budapest and several other large Hungarian cities.
