Poland’s leading TV stations have come under fire from the EC for exceeding commercial airtime limits. A 900-page report by the Commission has identified Poland, along with Spain and Italy, as the three worst transgressors in the EU, taking into account the amount of time they allocate to sponsorship. According to the Polish press, the country’s National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) met yesterday (December 10) with TVP1, Polsat, TVN and the regional station TV4. All four will all be required to submit an explanation to the KRRiT, which will then provide a joint response to the Ministry of Culture. This, in turn, will liaise with Brussels on the matter. A change to existing Polish legislation could be on the cards.
