Telia Stofa is launching a new on demand service that will combine regular cable transmissions with IP video. The IP connection will be used to connect with the Danish operator’s VOD server while the high-speed cable network will then deliver the video back to the customer’s set-top box. The system also allows Telia Stofa to manage and monitor the performance of the STB.
The operator has selected the Motorola VIP 1920-9C/IP set-top box, which incorporates KreaTV set-top software, acquired by Motorola in January 2006.
“Telia Stofa sees a variety of opportunities in interactive TV. User trials indicate that the market is mature for on-demand services, subsequently we are aware of the consumers demand for better TV-signals and influence on the programme mix,” said Kaj Skov, CTO, Telia Stofa.
Telia Stofa, owned by the TeliaSonera group, has developed its own middleware and user interface for the system.
