Portugal’s PT Multimedia and leading alternative telco Soneacom are looking into the possibility of a friendly merger. Earlier this month Portugal Telecom sold its remaining 8.3% shares in PT Multimedia. However, it has been criticised by both the EC and Portuguese competition for not giving up control of the company since both share share the same owner. PT Multimedia’s TV Cabo ended Q3 with 1,521,000 pay-TV subscribers, and its digital extended basic package was received in 356,000 homes.
Sonaecom, which operates an IPTV service, released a statement today to the effect that its talks with PT Multimedia and other parties about a possible merger are correct, “but none of these may or should be deemed as a negotiation of a concrete proposal, which in fact does not exist.”
