The new Polish Civic Platform (PO)-led government has given the firmest indication yet of its media strategy, and in particular the status of the public broadcaster TVP. Speaking to the local press, Bogdan Zdrojewski, likely to become the new minister of culture, said that receiver licence fees would gradually be withdrawn, to be replaced with funding from the state allocated solely for the production of public service programming. He also ruled out the privatisation of TVP, though added that financial curbs on the station could be imposed at some time in the future.
