Swiss public broadcaster SRG will cease all analogue terrestrial broadcasts on November 26. Viewers will only have access to one single multiplex offering the four national Swiss public channels in French and German.
Local retailers report lukewarm interest from consumers for the digital terrestrial service since the choice of channels is restricted to only four. But according to a spokesperson for the Media Markt retail chain, there demand is strong in border areas, where German, French or Italian DTT transmitters can be received.
Cable company Cablecom stresses the fact that cable subscribers need not take action. They will continue to receive analogue television via cable, although recently the number of channels has been cut back because space was needed for digital television.
