Alcatel-Lucent is to enhance its interactive TV applications through the purchase of Tamblin. The software company will be used to enhance Alcatel-Lucent’s existing IPTV solution, positioning it more favourably against Microsoft’s Mediaroom product suite. No financial terms have been disclosed.
Tamblin has developed a number of software solutions that have been used on a cross platform basis within the UK market. Its clients include BBC, BSkyB, ITV, Five and the Central Office of Information. In May, the BSkyB-controlled agency Sky Media adopted Tamblin’s MiAds, which allows for SMS to be used with commercials as part of an on screen call to action.
Tamblin’s 13 person staff will join Alcatel-Lucent’s convergence business activities within its multimedia and payment team.
