Take up of digital TV services in the UK grew by 944,000 homes in the second quarter of the year. It means that 84% of households now receive digital TV on their primary set, an increase of 3.5% points since March 2007, and bringing the total to 21.4 million households.
The momentum can be attributed to the sale of IDTVs (integrated digital TVs), which now represent the majority of big screen sales, and accounted for 900,000 units out of the 1.9 million DTT sales in the second quarter. Manufacturers have now promised to add more IDTVs to their range of smaller screen sets.
Digital terrestrial at 9.1 million sets is now the dominant means of digital TV reception on the main TV set, closely followed by the 9 million digital satellite receivers.
