NBC Universal has said it is making content available over Amazon’s Unbox digital download service just days after the peacock network failed to reach an agreement with Apple for carriage of its shows on iTunes. It is thought that a sticking point was Apple’s inflexibility over the consumer purchase price.
US residents will be able to purchase episodes of Heroes and The Office for $1.99. New episodes will be added the day after transmission. It will also be possible to purchase a season pass for an entire series.
Free pilot episodes of shows including Bionic Woman – a remake starring former EastEnders actress Michelle Ryan – and Chuck will be made available from September 10.
The NBC content can be played on a computer or through a web-enable TiVo digital video recorder.
