Russia’s Sistema is understood to be preparing to buy a stake in the incumbent Slovenian telco Telekom Slovenije. At present the telco is majority (62.53%) owned by the state, with individual shareholders (10.56%) holding the next highest stake. It entered the Ljubljana Stock Exchange in October 2006, and strategic investors may eventually own 39.13% of the company. Telekom Slovenije’s subsidiary SiOL is the largest ISP in Slovenia, claiming an 82% market share as of Q4 2006. It was one of the first companies in Europe to launch an IPTV service.
