According to a forecast by EEBC, Ukraine could have 850,000 new DTH subscribers in the next three years and up to 2.5 million by 2012. EEBC, which organises an annual telecom/broadcasting conference and exhibition in Kiev, was commenting on major developments in the digital TV sector in the country this year. Two companies (Poverkhost and DataGroup) have both already launched DTH platforms, in both instances carrying HD channels, with a third from Vision TV set to follow by the end of the year. Digital cable services have meanwhile been introduced in five cities (Kiev, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Krivog Roy and Odessa) and both DTT and IPTV trials – in the latter case undertaken by Ukrtelecom, Golden Telecom, Comstar and Telesystems are under way.
