Portugal’s leading alternative telco Sonaecom has restated its plans to expand into the cable sector. Speaking to the local press, its CEO Angelo Pauperio said that both Cabovisao, which is currently owned by Canada’s fourth largest cable operator Cogeco Cable, and Portugal Telecom’s PT Multimedia are takeover targets. Sonaecom is backed by France Telecom and operates an IPTV service known as Clix SmarTV. It has already failed in a bid for Portugal Telecom, understood to have been in the region of €11.1 billion.
