Abertis Infraestructuras has reportedly told the Spanish government that it is prepared to head a bid for the satellite operator Hispasat in order to stop an initial public offering from going ahead.
The Spanish government favours an IPO to prevent Eutelsat, which owns 27.7% of Hispasat, from exercising an option to buy out the company’s minority shareholders.
La Gaceta de los Negocios reports that Abertis has told the government it is prepared to make an “attractive offer” for Hispasat in order to keep it in Spanish hands.
Hispasat carries DTH packages for the Spanish and Portuguese markets as well as telecommunications services between the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America.
