NCTA – LAS VEGAS. The History Channel and Starz will soon launch HD versions in the United States. History Channel HD will launch in September, when the 24-hour service will become available on DTH provider DirecTV. The new channel will simulcast the network’s entire lineup of original, nonfiction programming and specials.
Premium movie provider Starz will expand its current HD offering (Starz HD channel and Starz and Encore HD On Demand services) with HD simulcasts of Starz Comedy, Starz Edge and Starz Kids and Family.
Cable operator Comcast said it wil feed five HD channels into it HITS (Headend In The Sky) service: Starz HD, A&E HD, Home & Garden Television HD, Food Network HD and Universal HD for distribution by cable networks.
