The merger of the two pay-TV giants Canal+ and TPS has resulted in a 35% saving on the cost of screening English Premier League football to French audiences. In the latest international deal to be announced, Canal has secured the rights to the Premiership for three years, the rights were previously held by TPS.
The new agreement will run from the start of the 2007-08 season in August. Canal will broadcast 380 matches per season. News channel Infosport will carry a number of support programmes.
In addition to the French league, Canal also has the rights to the German, Italian and Spanish leagues, as well as the European Champions League.
