DTT platform Freeview continues to drive digital conversions in the UK. According to new data published by the regulator Ofcom, around 1,002,000 new digital homes were added in the fourth quarter of 2006, following 800,000 in the previous quarter and including 700,000 DTT ‘Freeview’ homes. 2.4 million DTT boxes sold bringing the total to 7,703,000 DTT households.
The figures mean that 77.2% of UK households now receive digital television services on their primary TV set, an increase of 3.9% since the previous quarter, and representing 19.5 million households.
Ofcom also estimates there to be around 815,000 free-to-air digital satellite homes – a combination of lapsed Sky Digital subscribers that have maintained their reception equipment and those who have signed up for the freesatfromsky service.
