UPC is planning a €300 million upgrade of its network in the Irish Republic. UPC Ireland, which comprises the former networks of NTL and Chorus is planning to expand its network to enable additional digital channels. There are also plans to introduce digital video recorders and high definition television. The wireless MMDS network will also be upgraded to digital.
Customers in Chorus areas will benefit the most from the upgrade, which follows last week’s announcement of a second wave of digital terrestrial television trials.
Only 25% of UPC Ireland has been upgraded to a two-way network. The company has 592,000 video subscribers.
