The French Parliament has passed legislation confirming digital switchover in November 2011. The analogue television service will undergo a phased switchover plan commencing in March 2008, by when it is expected that digital terrestrial services will be available to 95% of the population. However, some analysts have cautioned that the November 2011 target may be difficult to achieve.
As part of the switchover process commercial broadcasters TF1, M6 and Canal+ will be gifted an additional digital channel to compensate for the loss of their analogue capacity.
