Viasat Broadcasting is continuing to underpin the activities of Sweden’s Modern Times Group. The combined DTH satellite platforms in the Nordic and Baltic regions recorded a combined 15% year-on-year growth to 929,000 subscribers at the end of 2006. However, while Sweden is providing fertile ground for pay-TV subscriptions as the country moves through the digital switchover process, the free-TV business is suffering in a weak advertising market. Audiences for TV3 Sweden fell during the year, compensated in part by a rise in audiences for TV6. Penetration for the two channels has risen to 78% and 74% respectively as a result of analogue switchover.
Sales grew by 14% year-on-year to reach SKr2,310 million (€250.94m) in the quarter to December 31, 2006 and by 29% to SKr8,291m for the full year. (JC)
