Mobile operator Mobilkom Austria A1 has launched a trial DVB-H mobile TV service in Kitzbühel, a small city in the Tyrol region of Austria, an area known for its winter sports. The mobile TV service will carry content from public broadcasters ORF 1 and ORF 2, Hit Radio Ö3 and local radio station Kitzbühel Radio.
ORS, the facilities company owned by ORF, has built the DVB-H transmitter. The trial involves two TV channels and the Ö3 music station with visuals as well as local news from Kitzbühel Radio.
The trial also involves usage of an Electronic Service Guide (ESG) and a special browser for interactive applications including SMS voting. The pilot is a joint project of Siemens, ORF, ORS, H3G and FH Salzburg and will last till mid-2007.
