Both skyscrapers that form the SBS headquarters in Amsterdam were evacuated today as part of their aluminum facing was ripped off and one piece was flung through a window. Force 11 winds and gusts of up to 130km per hour blew across the country taking the lives of two people.
The two buildings on the Amsterdam waterfront (one occupied by SBS international, the other by the broadcaster’s Dutch subsidiary) were only completed three years ago.
Staff were sent home to work or relocated to an alternative location, allowing broadcasts from the international broadcast group’s three Dutch TV channels SBS6, Net5, Veronica and radio channel Caz, to continue without interruption. (DK)
