Discovery Channel joined the Orbit satellite platform on January 1 in an exclusive deal for the Middle East. It will be joined in a few weeks by Discovery Science, which with Animal Planet, brings the total number of Discovery-owned channels on Orbit to three. The 24-hour English language channels are being subtitled in Arabic for the Orbit platform. Orbit carries a total of 45 television channels in five different channel packages. It serves the Middle East and North Africa including Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, UAE, Egypt, Sudan and Tunisia from Badr 3 & Eurobird 2 at 26 degrees East and the Atlantic Bird satellite at eight degrees West (JC).
